IT Support in Boston

Prevvi is headquartered in Cambridge and runs a helpdesk for Boston teams. The median first response is 15 minutes, most problems are fixed remotely, and an engineer comes on site when a fix needs hands.

Overview

What Boston teams get when something breaks

People search for IT support in Boston at a bad moment. A partner cannot sign in before a closing, a conference room display will not connect, or a new hire starts Monday and the laptop is still in a box. A sales pitch does not help then. A person who picks up, understands the problem, and either fixes it or says when it will be fixed does.

A request moves through our helpdesk like this. You reach us by phone, email, or chat, and we log the ticket with who you are and what stopped working. The median first response across our tickets is 15 minutes. That is the middle of the range, not a guarantee for any single request. Anything that stops a team from working is triaged ahead of routine questions. The helpdesk is staffed around the clock, and monitoring runs around the clock as well, so a problem that starts at night still reaches a person. Most tickets are resolved remotely, because an engineer connected to your device sees the problem sooner than one driving across town.

When hands are needed, an engineer travels from our headquarters at 1 Mifflin Pl in Harvard Square, which is on the Red Line into the city. We visit offices around the Longwood medical campus, the Seaport, Back Bay, Downtown, and the Financial District. Past the city line, the same engineers drive to Kendall Square and other parts of Cambridge, Waltham, Quincy, Brookline, and Newton. We have one office, in Cambridge. Many of our clients work in Boston, but it is not a second location of ours.

What's included

How we handle Boston IT support requests

A helpdesk that answers

Phone, email, and chat all land in one queue, worked by engineers who can act on the ticket. Urgent outages move to the front, and every request has a named owner until it is closed.

Remote first, on site when needed

Most tickets are settled in a remote session on the affected device or account: sign-in trouble, mail and calendar problems, printers, VPN, and software that will not launch. Hardware and office network problems get a visit.

Security problems treated as tickets

A suspicious email, a lost laptop, or a locked account is a security matter as much as an IT one. Multi-factor authentication and email and endpoint protection are already in place, so we start from a known baseline.

Microsoft 365 and email

Mailbox trouble, calendar sharing, shared files, and Teams questions all come through the same queue. We also handle the setup behind them, such as spam filtering, license changes, and who can open which folders.

Devices and new-hire setup

A new laptop arrives with the right software and accounts, so a new hire can sign in on the first morning. When someone leaves, we turn off their access and sort out what happens to the device.

Office network and moves

Wi-Fi dead spots, a failing firewall, and a printer that dropped off the network get a visit when a remote session cannot settle them. For an office move, we plan the network and device changes with you so work carries on without a gap after the move.

How it works

What the first week with Prevvi looks like

  1. Introductions and access

We collect the list of people, devices, and accounts, agree on how your team reaches us, and set up one way to ask for help. A short call covers what has been going wrong lately.

  2. A look at the environment

An engineer walks through devices, email, backups, and security settings with whoever looks after IT today, then writes down what we found in plain language.

  3. The quick fixes

Problems that have irritated people for months, such as a flaky printer, a slow sign-in, or a shared drive nobody can find, get fixed early so the team feels the difference.

  4. A plan for the rest

By the end of the week you have a written list of what to fix next, in what order, and what each item involves. Nothing depends on anyone remembering it.

When a Boston team should call

  • The person who handled IT has left. Passwords live in one head and nobody knows where the licenses are. We step in, inventory what exists, and make the support path clear within days.
  • The same problem keeps coming back. Repeat trouble usually has a root cause nobody has had time to chase. We track repeats across tickets and fix the cause instead of the symptom.
  • A deadline is close. An office move, a cohort of new hires, a client audit, or a security questionnaire from a customer all go better when someone is already inside your environment.
FAQ

IT Support in Boston: common questions

It means an outside team handles your technology problems and upkeep instead of an employee doing it. Your staff call, email, or chat when something breaks, and the team fixes it, usually by connecting to the device remotely. Some companies outsource all of it, and others only the part their own person cannot cover, such as nights, vacations, and security.

Our median first response is 15 minutes, which is what we see across tickets and is not a promise for every one. Requests that stop people from working are triaged first, and we tell you what we are doing and when to expect the next update.

We price each engagement after a free assessment, because people, devices, and systems differ so much between offices. The quote spells out what is covered.

Yes. An engineer comes from our Cambridge headquarters to offices in the Financial District, Back Bay, the Seaport, and Longwood when a problem needs hands on a device or a cable. Many requests are finished remotely before a visit would even be scheduled.

Yes. Practices and research groups that handle protected health information must follow the HIPAA Security Rule, and we align the environment with its safeguards. The practice keeps its own duties under the rule, and our work helps it meet them.

Often, yes. The state regulation 201 CMR 17.00 applies to any business that owns or licenses personal information about a Massachusetts resident, which can include employee records. It calls for a written information security program, sometimes shortened to WISP, plus technical safeguards such as encryption on laptops, access controls, system monitoring, patching, and staff training. Prevvi aligns your devices and accounts with those safeguards and helps keep the written program current. Your company keeps ownership of the program, and your attorney advises on the legal duty.

The name of the person affected, the device or account involved, what they were doing when it stopped, and any error on the screen. A phone photo of the message helps. You do not have to diagnose anything, because that is our job.

Yes. Teams with one internal IT person often bring us in for coverage during vacations, sick days, and busy stretches. Your person keeps ownership of priorities, and we work the queue alongside them.
